I will be traveling to Gustavus this weekend to do the Gustavus Community Health Fair. Whenever I travel throughout Alaska, I always like to read about the history of the community and how each one came to be. What endearing stories you have here; I am all the more excited to visit!

Visited site on August 28, 2011. Lived in Spenard, AK in 1952-53 as a boy. Having been in the USAF, Colorado Air National Guard and Texas Air National Guard, the site was very moving to me. Must applaud the citizens of Gustavus for their efforts in locating the survivors. Worked crash sites myself many hours or days after occurance and wonder if more lives could have been saved if someone had arrived sooner.

Thanks to everyone who had a part in collecting and preserving these archives. I am first cousin of Dennis Stamey who was a great role model for me, I was 17 and member of NC Air National guard at time of the crash. Dennis took me hunting, flew model planes with me, taught school where I attended, Arlington Jr High. I had never known all the circumstances of the crash until today when I ran across this site thinking of him this Memorial Day, 2011. He was an awesome guy and I will never forget him.

I worked in Gustavus for a summer and loved the place. The scenery, history and people continue to be in my thoughts over ten years later. Thanks for putting together this amazing site!

Enjoyed your website. I am the grandson of Bill and Margaret Taggart, one of the three original homesteaders of Gustavus (Strawberry Point). They went on to have three children, one girl (conceived in the Honeymoon Cabin), another girl and my father, also Bill, born in Seattle in 1920. His father lived until 1989 and my grandmother lived until 1992, both lived until the age of 97 in the City of Seattle. I'm sorry to see that we lost the "Taggart River" to the Goods!

I had heard that you were doing a great job putting pictures online, and just had to see your page. Keep up the good work! I'm cataloging the photographs at the Hope and Sunrise Historical and Mining Museum.

I really enjoyed seeing the names of people continual pop up. It really gave a sense of what a great community Gustavus is. You have an impressive collection, too.

I was in Glacier bay Aug. 9-12th, 2010 and one day we rented bicycles and rode out to see the plane crash. I was amazed at how much was still there. Later I googled and was happy to know that 14 of the 17 survived.
