229  Ore Transport System, Leroy Mine, Johns Hopkins Inlet, Glacier Bay.
  • Date: 1941
  • Description: Ore cart on trestle rails delivered ore to hopper (left) which in turn filled a "bucket" carrying ore downhill to ball-mill via air cable tram. Crushed ore & concentrates were shipped via Juneau to Tacoma Smelter.

  • Date: 1983
  • Description: Ill and dying of cancer, in brother Glen's skiff, accompanied by Jim Mackovjack, Bert launched one last time (with a smile on his face) and set out for his favorite spot. Who could deny him? He died a short time later.
