- Description: Louis "Louie" Mideke, French Canadian trapper, with oar, pistol & unidentified boat. He attempted homesteading but did not prove up on what became Fred & Ruth Matson's place. GHAA believes proper spelling is Mideke although other spellings are seen (Medike, Medeke, Medieke).

- Description: Sam Buoy arrived Gustavus 1934. Homestead house seen on Lt. with large hand split spruce shakes. Log barn under construction with unidentified people. Flag pole secured by ropes around tall tree stump. Later occupied by Tom & Jesse Buoy and burned down 1958 (chimney fire).

Infamous "Killer Bear" In Abraham Parker's Barn. Gustavus, Alaska.
- Date: 1928
- Description: Finally! The large, brown "Killer Bear" that terrorized & killed over 50 homestead cattle in one 3 yr. span was killed himself! "Killer Bear" always left signature mark of bitten off nose, deep neck bites, and no meat eaten. He remained elusive though hunted by bands of pioneers for years. Shot by Harry Hall "point blank" in total darkness in corral of terrified cattle.

- Description: Hank Johnson standing beside his 12' by 18' Rink Creek log cabin with 36 in. spruce shakes handsplit by himself & brother Carl. Lester Rink helped new arrivals build in exchange for help in his fields. Land patent granted 1940. Coyotes were a menace to his vulnerable young calves.
